Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is My Father Who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He Who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.
“Sir,” they said, “from now on gives us this bread.”
Then Jesus declared, “I am the Bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in Me will never be thirsty.”
John 6:57,58
“Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but He who feeds on this Bread will live forever.”
When the Israelites were in the desert and complaining about the manna (bread from heaven), they were upset because of the lack of variety in their food. They didn’t realize that the very food they were tired of was the perfect food to sustain them when nothing else was available. They were provided with fresh food daily, clothing that never wore out and water from a rock enough to quench the thirst of millions of people. They still wanted more.
We are much the same. We are given the life and soul-saving Bread of life and yet we want more. Jesus provides us with life-sustaining words that will strengthen us to the day of glory. He gives us bread and water that fulfills our every need. When we feast on the banquet of His word and digest the meat of His word, we fill that place in our lives that cannot be satisfied any other way. His word quenches the thirst within us that nothing else can. His promises fill that hollow place deep within us that aches to be filled. Jesus is all we need. He is our manna that never fails, our new wine. His love completes us and His resurrection saved us. He is all we will ever need.
