John 13:1-17
Jesus washed the feet of Judas. He knew what was going to happen yet He washed his feet. He chose to serve even
the one who would betray Him. He chose to demonstrate to the other disciples the true meaning of servant leadership.
His example is one that we are commanded to follow. (vs 14,15) How do we respond to others who are not 'one of us'? Do we treat them with mild contempt, being careful not to get to know them a little too well? How do we respond to those in our lives who treat us with little or no respect?
Put yourself in Jesus' place, kneeling at the feet of Judas. Can we do what Jesus did willingly or would we consider it beneath us? Following Jesus means to put ourselves in some very uncomfortable places, but the rewards of being obedient are eternal. When I place myself at the feet of Judas, I find that I rebel against what he did to my Lord and Savior. But I also see that his betrayal is no worse than mine when I sin and follow my own way.
Open my eyes, Lord, to see who I really am and who You want me to be, who you want me to serve. Show me my attitude as you see it. Help me to wash the feet of those who need to see a servants heart, a picture of Your heart and love in
action.
